Don’t call it a comeback, Jesse Leach has been here for years. His recent return to KSE after replacing Howard Jones on the band’s 2013’s Disarm the Decent has revitalized the metalcore pioneers standing amongst both their loyalest of fans and has also garnered a new found following of fist-pumping first-timers. The band is out on tour in support of their latest effort. Incarnate was released to rave reviews on March 11th.

This past Friday night at the Showbox Sodo, KillSwitch Engage threw down an epic sized metalcore set in front of a capacity crowd. The crowd stood restlessly by as they prepared for KSE to take the stage and about 5 minutes prior to their set time the chants for “KillSwitch” and “KSE” started echoing throughout the venue. Then, without waisting any time, the band roared onto the stage and dove right into a hard hitting live rendition of “Strength of the Mind” off of Incarnate.

The blistering, heavy, hard hitting set saw Leach commanding the stage and connecting with the crowd. Leach even joined the moshing masses at one point during an extra heavy “Fixation on the Darkness” as he leaped from the stage right into the front row. While Leach was engulfed in the crowd of fist-pumping fans, Adam Dutkiewicz to full advantage of center stage to display his own brand heavy metal of twerking.

About halfway through the 17 song set was Hate by Design which erupted the capacity crowd into a frenzy. Leach’s vocals were incredibly intense and right along side him in perfect time was Mike D’Antonio dropping head banging bombs on the bass. There was a feeling at this show, at least for me. A feeling that the pentagonal powerhouse was once again complete. KillSwitch Engage feels whole again, and that is not taking anything away from Howard Jones but there was a feeling that this was and always will be Jesse Leach’s hardcore, heavy metal home.
