Bumbershoot, the longtime Seattle Fest spanning decades was first named Bumbershoot for the first time in’73 though it had been around since 1971. It had appeared that the 2014 festival which featured artists like Foster the People, The Head and The Heart and Panic at the Disco, to name but a few, would be the last Bumbershoot Festival ever… Ever, ever. Though it is one of North America’s largest urban music and arts festivals, bringing over 100,000 visitors from near and far to spend the weekend reveling in regional favorites and international superstars across all arts disciplines the festival was in dire straights and the idea of moving on into 2015 looked bleak.

The festival definitely needed to make some changes and welcomed with open arms a partnership with Showbox Presents/AEG Live. AEG Live had the second largest concert gross in the nation this year, bringing in $913,763,358, according to Billboard magazine. This partnership will bring a ton of buying and booking power to the festival moving forward.

One Reel, which presents Bumbershoot, announced the partnership with Showbox Presents/AEG Live, promoters of music at the Showbox, KeyArena and other venues around the country earlier today. The announcement that the partnership will allow the 3 day fest to continue was music to the ears of Seattleites as the longest running fest in Seattle is set and ready to move forward into 2015 and beyond.

The former Director of One Reel’s Festivals Division, Heather Smith, is returning as Interim Executive Director. Additionally, through an agreement with the City of Seattle, One Reel is partnering with AEG Live/Showbox Presents to build a stable and sustainable model for the festival’s future.

“Bumbershoot has been growing and growing and growing,” said Smith, “but the bigger it gets, the harder it can fall. And it doesn’t take much. This type of a partnership allows for One Reel to really focus in on the arts and culture programming that make it unique.”
