Live Show Review: Steel Panther Opens for Judas Priest

Live Show Review: Steel Panther Opens for Judas Priest

Throw aside their crazy on stage antics. Put aside their raunchy lyrics. Steel Panther is a great band and this past Saturday, they opened up for a truly legendary metal band in Judas Priest. You might be saying to yourself that having a ‘Parody’ band on the bill with a ‘Metal God’ just doesn’t seem to fit but here is why it does.

Steel Panther guitarist  Russel Parrish, AKA “Satchel”, was in Rob Halford’s post-Judas Priest band Fight and Ralph Saenz, AKA “Michael Starr”, was in the world’s best ever Van Halen cover band known as the Atomic Punks. It is this lineage that makes pairing Priest and Panther together somewhat common sense.

Steel Panther kicked off their set with “Pussywhipped” off the new “All You Can Eat” album followed by ‘Party Like Tomorrow Is the End of the World’ before taking time for a little comedic relief. There was no shortage of banter between bandmates as Satchel poked fun at Star calling him an “Overweight David Lee Roth”. The over the top antics didn’t stop there as the band then focused in on the crowd with some good spirited, often quite personal jabs. That is Steel Panther, that is what they do and whether you love them or hate them they are on fire right now.

They played a full 10 song set list which was punctuated by ‘Party All Day (Fuck All Night)’ and ‘Death to All but Metal’ You can see their full setlist HERE but in the meantime here is a video for your viewing pleasure… Death to all but Metal!
